Mozilla Suite aka Mozilla Application Suite aka Mozilla 1.x is changing name to SeaMonkey

Mozilla Suite, to some also known as Mozilla 1.x or Mozilla Application Suite, is gonna be renamed to SeaMonkey. The work to rebrand the installer is almost done. Note that it's spelled SeaMonkey and not Seamonkey. And it's not Mozilla SeaMonkey. It's just SeaMonkey.

"Mozilla Mail" is gonna be named "SeaMonkey Mail" and even the executable is gonna be renamed from mozilla.exe to seamonkey.exe.

It doesn't come as a big surprise. The Bugzilla re-organization a couple of months back created just such a name. But incorrectly spelled it Seamonkey. Oh no, are we gonna see another product misspelling chaos. Just like we're seeing with Firefox by some spelled FireFox? Just look at this page. We have both "Sea Monkey" and "Seamonkey"

The Mozilla Foundation has earlier announced that there won't be any more official releases of the Mozilla Application Suite now named SeaMonkey, but they will provide infrastructure for community members who wish to continue development. SeaMonkey survival will need a new team that cares about that product and that will take over the lead for its development. Read more about SeaMonkey.

And for those of you who ask "what is a seamonkey?" Well here's one.

And now look at the title of the Seamonkey [sic] Project page.

You might have noticed that there's no official announcement anywhere, there's just an attachment to a bug report (and not even the main rebranding one). Sure, someone of the SeaMonkey Council has attached it, so you can guess where we're going. But as long as there is no announcement by the SeaMonkey Council (and a reworked project page, which we have drafted already) you can't take this naming as official.
We don't have a trademark yet, but as you might know, we've already used that name quite some :)

Please wait for an announcement and the real rebranding patch before taking it for granted :)

Is there any new logo for the SeaMonkey? Perhaps a seamonkey...?

P.S. Why it said my comment was denied for questionable content?

It is good news to hear that we have a name for the application suite. I just irks me the way it comes across as we are second class. The wording from Mozilla Foundation since the announcement comes across as well like (“ the losers who rather have one application for their browser, mail, hopefully soon calendar, instead of multiple application to maintain and have open and running, Well if any of the developers want to still wanting to code for it or are still wanting to use the application we will give you some room over here in the corner like we are the black sheep in the family that no one in the family want to admit to ”). That is my opinion how this is being put forth. What ever happened to choice? Let the people decide what is best for their needs. That is what I have done for friends and family. Some wanted a alternative to the other guys dominant browser but wanted to stick to their expensive PIM that came with their office suite. Others were looking for a complete suite like the what came with the system but with far better features and security. That was the great thing about Mozilla choices! You had applications for mutable platforms and depending on what that person or organization needed. Like I said of late certain writings on Mozilla Planet has made me a application suite user feel like I was no longer wanted. Thanks to the people who have stepped up to the plate and kept giving us users choices.

Gonna? Going to, you mean ;p.

Anyways, I prefer Seamonkey without the ugly second capital. Americans are way too keen on capitals, it’s almost starting to look like German :).
