Use Windows Media Player 9 in Mozilla
Normally when you see an webpage that uses the Windows Media Player control in Mozilla of Mozilla Firebird it's shown with the old Windows Media Player control aka version 6.4 control. With this registry fix you can now use the Windows Media Player 9 control. Either cut of the following text and save it into a
wmp9.reg
file and run it
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\ShimInclusionList\mozilla.exe]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\ShimInclusionList\MozillaFirebird.exe]
Or you can just click here to download the registry fix
It's already logged as a bug in bugzilla. See bug 193883.

Damn me! It's been fixed!
phoenix.exe -> MozillaFirebird.exe
Add the following to have it work in firefox too:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\ShimInclusionList\firefox.exe]
http://gemal.dk/misc/use-windows-media-player9-in-gecko.reg
has now been updated to include firefox.exe
The fix works in firefox 0.8, but i think that it is strange that it isn't has been fixed in the new builds?

Comment by Grimwolf at February 25, 2004 07:05 AM | PermalinkHi,
I ran the registry fix that was listed and i'm having some issues with it, primarily with regards to streaming video, and switching back and forth from dialup to high-speed settings.
I watch news telecasts from http://www.ctv.ca usually in IE, however i decided to switch over the Firefox. However, due to high bandwitdth, the default setting with watching news telecasts is on dialup. When i switch to high-speed in IE, there are no issues. However, when i try to do the same in Firefox, it reloads the page, but it continues to stay as a dialup feed. Does anyone have any idea what i have to do so i can finally not use IE anymore?

Comment by Henrik Gemal at May 11, 2004 02:05 PM | PermalinkWhere do u put the file?
Sorry if its a bit noobish but I'd like to know please....
The problem I'm having (with a Firefox later than PR1.0) is, f.i., at http://www.tbx.be/cameras/gp.html
It was bringing up MP6.4 (mplayer2.exe).
So I merged in
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\ShimInclusionList\Firefox.exe]
Now it does bring up WMP9, but not quite correctly, still as if it was MP6.4, with full display format and the controls at mid-height.
And, of course, it says Ready, but it shows nothing, even if one hits Play.
My plugins, etc... are being pointed to by Firefox OK...
IE 6 works. So?
Dear Henrik,
With your registry fix for Windows Media Player 9/10 you solved a problem that nobody else could. After installing the update to 9/10 I lost pictures or sound and eventually both, not only in Mozilla but then in IE. After a month of trying everything I found this page. It cured the problem in both Mozilla and IE. It is not just the skin of WMP that is now correct, BOTH BROWSERS NOW FUNCTION with media Player. Thank you very much.

Comment by Gaurav Singh at September 21, 2005 07:15 PM | PermalinkLooks like a similar entry needs to be created for Seamonkey 1.0
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\ShimInclusionList\SEAMONKEY.EXE]

Comment by Zach at June 5, 2006 04:38 AM | PermalinkNote... this fix works on wmp versions 10 and (I assume) 11 as well.

Comment by Beverly Howard at August 13, 2006 01:20 AM | PermalinkHad the same problem. Wierd part was it only had a problem under one login account. All other users on the same machine had no trouble. Here's what fixed it.
Close WMP.
Open Windows Explorer.
Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Media\9.0
Delete all files in this directory.
Restart WMP.
Et Voi-la!
Sorry if I'm the only one who doesn't know this but - Where do I paste the the text that this fix links to??? All I get is the following:
--
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\ShimInclusionList]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\ShimInclusionList\mozilla.exe]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\ShimInclusionList\mozillafirebird.exe]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\ShimInclusionList\firefox.exe]
--
Please dumb it down for me

phoenix.exe? For Firebird this should be MozillaFirebird.exe, or am I wrong?
