Drastic changes to the Bugzilla

We are currently planning drastic changes to the Bugzilla product and component organisation. This will affect your components. Please review the current draft proposal and send comments to Hixie as soon as possible. Thanks!

THE PROBLEMS THIS PROPOSAL SOLVES: Bugzilla no longer really maps to the products that are being developed, which will make it harder to keep track of where bugs should go. Assignees are regularly changing, causing bugs to become lost in space and time.

Read the proposal here.

Sounds a lot like mpt's suggestions from nearly two years ago: http://mpt.phrasewise.com/discuss/msgReader$95

Actually, I first suggested it just over *three* years ago. http://groups.google.com/groups?selm=39E31EC3.85CE0AF5%40student.canterbury.ac.nz I guess it’s partly my fault — if I’d been more persuasive, there would have been less time wasted between my suggesting it and the powers that be accepting it.

(I wonder how many more years it will be before the automatic deassignation part of my scheme gets implemented. Maybe a decade or two, once enough contributors have either died or left the project without telling anyone, that the problem with misleadingly assigned inactive bugs becomes obvious.)

Yeah, it's always annoying when somebody dies without telling you.
