Software I use
Some people have been asking me what applications I use, so I'll try to list them. I use Windows XP.
Browser & Mail:
- Mozilla
- Mozilla Mail
I dont use Mozilla Firebird and Mozilla Thunderbird since I like the integration of the browser and mailclient into one product. Small stuff like being able to press CTRL+N all over the application to get a new browser window, etc. Eventually I will move to the two birds.
File Management:
- Total Commander (A file manager and FTP manager that rocks)
Editor:
- UltraEdit (Best editor for Windows ever)
Office:
- Microsoft Office
- OpenOffice.org (The UI in OpenOffice.org is still to nerdy and there's still missing a lot of stuff compared to MS Office)
Internet:
- SecureCRT (Who can live without SecureCRT?)
- Bersirc (IRC client. Ok, but not great. Still looking for a nice client other than MIRC)
Instant Messenger:
- Miranda (Multi protocol. Loads of plug-ins. Open Source)
Media:
- BSPlayer (Small fast player)
- QuickTime Alternative (Play QuickTime files just without the bloat)
- RealPlayer Alternative (RealPlayer is the worst bloat/ad ware program I know. I would never trust installing it)
- K-Lite Codec Pack (You never need to install another codec to watch a video)
- WinAmp (Still using version 2. Version 3 sucks bigtime)
Remote Access
- Remote Administrator (Used to remote control my PC at work)
Graphics
- XnView (I used to use ACDSee but converted to XnView since it's free)
- Paint Shop Pro (Never figured out how to use Photoshop)
Misc:
- 4NT (Command prompt replacement)
- Acrobat Reader
- Sun Java Runtime Environment
- jv16 PowerTools (Fix and optimize Windows)
- Spybot - Search & Destroy (Spyware remover)
- PINs (Passwords manager)

Are you sure the link you provide for "secureCRT" is correct? It's leading to http://www.jasc.com, but should'nt it be leading to http://www.vandyke.com/products/securecrt/ ??
Comment by Jasko at November 24, 2003 04:47 PM | PermalinkThe link for SecureCRT has now been fixed!

Have you considered using PuTTY instead SecureCRT. It is free and it also supports both SSH and telnet.
