Acronym and Favicon plugins released
Today I released two Movable Type plugins. Acronym and Favicon. Both plugins has been tested and works in version 3.x of Movable Type.
Acronym
The first one is just an updated version of Acronym. Acronym is a plugin for Movable Type that adds acronym tags to known acronyms. This text in a blog posting This is a XHTML test becomes this This is a <acronym title="Extensible HyperText Markup Language">XHTML</acronym> test which in the web browser is shown like this This is a XHTML test.
So go ahead and download Acronym.
Favicon
The other is a brand new one. Favicon is a plugin for Movable Type that adds favicons to comments and trackbacks. Favicons are small icons shown in the browsers location bar for better identification of a website. To the right is shown a screenshot of the Favicon plugin in use. If the user leaves a URL either in a comment or a trackback the favicon is being show next to the comment/trackback.
You can see a live example of the favicons by looking at the comment on this blog posting.
So go ahead and download Favicon.

Henrik - with this version of Acronym, to get it to work I had to change the first line in mt-acronym.cgi to '#!/usr/bin/perl -w' . Otherwise I got a 500 Internal Server Error. Just thought you might want to be aware. Other than that, it looks good and is a worthwhile update :)
Comment by Neil T. at December 17, 2004 01:25 PM | PermalinkNeil T.: The #!/usr/bin/perl -w is because the perl on my machine is at #!/usr/local/perl/bin/perl -w
Comment by Henrik Gemal at December 17, 2004 01:32 PM | PermalinkGuido: I did a lot of testing and perhaps that's why you got a lot of requests. Sorry about that.
Favicon now cache's URL's for a week so the request havoc should have gone away now.
Fantastic! Ever since I noticed the favicons on your site, I've been hoping you'd release such a plugin. One question: have you thought about licensing what sort of license you'd like to release it under?

TrackBack from Acronym and Favicon MT-Plugins at December 18, 2004 06:11 PM | PermalinkGreat stuff, but on my ibook, when I click on the 'zip' link it doesn't seem to work (or unzip anything.) I'm guessing this is something to do w/zip working for win & not mac? (Am brand new to my mac, so if this is a stupid user error on my part, many apologies!!)

TrackBack from Favicon at January 24, 2005 06:11 AM | PermalinkYour acronym plugin looks like it would be really useful for my site. Any plans to upgrade to MT4?
Thanks,
Jonathan
On one hand, I really like the Favicons, on the other hand, it's a little frustrating to see how many visits you get compared to mine - because after I commented in that post back then, my hits (not visits) went havoc, and oh wonder, most of them were requests for my Favicon :-)
